The East District:
I
n the book, The Beginnings of Lutheran Church–Canada,
A. H. Schwermann writes,
"Under God, the work of Eastern Canada,
begun in 1854, prospered, so that twenty-five years later, in
1879, the Canada (now Ontario) District was organized with 14
pastors, 28 congregations, and 2,036 communicants. Its first
president was Pastor John Adam Ernst."
[What was then the Ontario District of LCMS is now the East District of LCC]
"Over the course of a century and a quarter, God has given prosperity
to the seed of His Word planted by Adam Ernst and other pioneer
pastors. It is a seed that has been nurtured by many men and women
in numerous congregations in Canada. A large tree has grown under
whose branches many souls have found rest through the pure Means of
Grace which Christ has given His Church. For this we praise our
gracious and loving God."
"But the future lies ahead. It is a future which bears the promise
that our God will also be there with His blessings. In faith, we can
be confident that this is so. Therefore, we can look forward in
anticipation to the ways in which He will continue to lead His
Church."
