Adopt an Inactive:
After studying
Ken Hauck's Reopening the Back Door: Answers to Questions
about Ministering to Inactive Members (published by Stephen
Ministries, 1992), I developed the idea to encourage active
members/families to "adopt" an inactive member/family from among
their circle of friends or acquaintances. The adopted family
would not be formally notified of their status. The adopting
family were asked to 1) pray for the adopted, 2)
occasionally drop off "mail" from the church, 3) invite
them to services or special congregational events, and 4)
generally befriend them in any ways the Lord might provide.
Hauck maintains that if congregations send letters to inactives,
they can pretty much guarantee that family can be "written
off." Personal contact is more time consuming, but much more
effective because it is relational in basis.

People Focus:
At each
Grace-Kincardine
Council meeting, the opening devotion is followed with
People Focus.
It gives time to talk and pray about the joys and
challenges encountered by members of the congregation. Also at a
lunch held the first Sunday of each month, those present discuss
who among members and neighbours (including inactives and
prospects) might need encouragement or care.
