On Amens:
How infrequently are our
congregations given (or take) the opportunity to add their
"Amen." In a workshop offered at a District Pastor's Conference
some years ago, Dr. Kenneth Korby urged us to give the "Amen"
back to the congregation. In Grimsby, we taught this so that
when I paused, they would say the "Amen" rather than me Amen-ing
myself. Appropriate times might include the votum before or
after the sermon.

Hymn Register:
Consider keeping a register of all hymns sung, perhaps on graph
paper. Especially after a number of years in the same parish, it
helps to see which hymns are used and how frequently they are
sung. In learning that a hymn is a "favourite," note it with a
red 'F.' It is also a challenge to sing some hymns more (and
some less) often. Should you leave the parish, it is a great
"gift" to leave behind for your successor.
