Department's Purpose

Without an official mission statement for DPS, we look to the District Handbook. DPS exists to assist congregations in a variety of ways - i.e., to carry out effective Christian education; help members grow in discipleship; organize and support specialized ministries for children, youth, families, seniors.

SPECIALTY MINISTRIES:

Children's Ministry
Purpose:
To advise and assist congregations in their ministry to children through resources and workshops. Funds meetings and provides materials to plan Workshops and other related events, such as:

  • Sunday School Teacher's Workshop

  • Confirmation Camp at Camp Pioneer

  • Catechesis Workshop

Family Life Education Committee
Purpose:
To assist congregations and members through alternatives and programs to enrich family life.

Older Adults Ministry
Purpose:
The committee is encouraged to discuss ways in which we can minister to the needs of seniors and seniors can serve the church. Publication of the ' Seasoned Adults ' newsletter.

Lutheran Schools Committee
Purpose:
To facilitate the establishment of Lutheran Education at the elementary and secondary levels for eligible children in the East District.

Worship Committee
Purpose:
To assist the congregations of the East District in worship by promoting the best possible worship materials and providing instruction for pastors and church musicians in the conduct of worship.

The Concordia Centre for Parish Worship and Music was organized in June '98 to encourage and foster high standards of Lutheran Worship and music in LCC congregations in keeping with the confessional and liturgical heritage of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and to be a collegial support group for church musicians.

Recruitment and Student Loan Committee
Purpose:
The primary focus of the Recruitment and Student Loan Committee is to grant and administer student loans for those planning to enter full-time Church work.
